| Although
you wouldn't think that the current performance level of a
Dodge V-10 engine could be improved much especially since
it has two more cylinders than most full-size work trucks
there are always owners who want more power. Since the V-10
is only available in the big 3/4- and I-ton pickups, and because
many owners pull heavy trailers or boats, they claim more
power is essential.
TTS Power
Systems now manufactures an after market exhaust system that
gives V-10 equipped trucks that little extra punch that owners
are looking for. According to TTS, there are two versions
of the Dodge V-10 truck: the California models, which utilize
single catalytic converters and single exhausts, and all other
models, which have dual-catalytic converter systems to increase
the V-10's performance.
TTS has developed a tubular header and free-flow exhaust system
for both models, which produces excellent results. On trucks
with the California emissions package, 15 more peak horsepower
and 10 additional lb/ft of torque was achieved. On dual cat
systems, the TTS exhaust package delivered 35 more peak horsepower
and an extra 30 Ib/ft of torque.
The package consists of tube headers, manufactured
from heavy-gauge steel with a thick flange to prevent any
warping. The exhaust system is made of three-inch diameter
tubing that is mandrel bent and aluminized. The mufflers improve
exhaust flow while eliminating excessive noise within the
cab. The entire system can be easily installed and requires
no welding.
Initial testing has shown that Dodge V-10s
equipped with the TTS exhaust system can pick up a full gear
when pulling heavy loads over steep hills and that includes
a I-I/2 mile per gallon improvement over stock. With this
kind of performance potential, the Dodge V-IO trucks have
a real advantage over similarly equipped Chevrolet and Ford
full-size trucks. TR

Exhaust system improvements; have shown an increase of up
to 35 peak horsepower and 30./b/ftof torque on some models.
Shown here are the TTS single cat exhaust system (left) and
the stock Dodge V-l0 system. The TTS system not only flows
better, it also weighs much less. |
